Top 5 Places to visit in Benalmadena with Children

When we book a family holiday we always look for places where there is plenty to do as my little tribe enjoy keeping busy! Obviously we enjoy spending a day or two at the beach but we try to plan activities to keep them occupied.

The one place we keep going back to is Benalmadena where there is lots to keep adults and children alike busy.  From local markets to water parks and funfairs, so I thought I would share our favourite places to take the kids.

Butterfly park/Mariposario Benalmadena– The butterfly park is up in the hills so you will need to get a taxi ( 15euro) or the local bus to get there. Located next to the Thai temple which has some amazing views, you can walk amongst more than 1,500 exotic butterflies from around the world, flying freely in a tropical paradise between waterfalls and flowers. You will be able to see how they are born, how they reproduce and enjoy learning many things about butterflies. You may even get the chance to hold one and if you are lucky one might land on you.

Crocodile park– We found the best way to get to the Crocodile park was taxi. Situated in Torremolinos, you will find yourself in front of prehistoric monsters which have miraculously survived 200 million years of evolution. You can get as close as 2 meters from the crocodiles, watch quietly as the keepers get up close with the crocodiles and share some facts about the. You can pay extra to hold a little crocodile if you are brave enough!

Sea Life Aquarium– We took a walk along the promenade to the marina where the aquarium is situated but you can get a local bus or taxi. Take a walk through the aquarium to see many different types of fish from Sting rays to Sharks including a few familiar faces from Finding Nemo and Dory. The kids had the opportunity to get up close with a Starfish and a few other creatures in the rock pool. When you have finished there is a mini golf course for the kids to play (costs extra).

Selwo Marina– We walked through Parque De La Paloma which is a beautiful park with a large duck pond and playgrounds before going to Selwo Marina. What can I say, the kids loved it so did Trevor and I. We have been three times before and each time the kids have enjoyed themselves so much. With the Dolphins Show you can get closer and respect these great sea mammals as well as transmitting the importance of caring for and respecting nature through our dolphins. You learn, enjoy, discover. It’s not just about the Dolphins, there is exotic bird demonstrations and you can watch the Penguins being fed.

Sould Park– The amusement park is in Fuengirola Marina but very easy to get to on the bus. The amusement park has something for all kids of all ages, from soft play to the more thrilling rides for older children. Its the perfect place to let the kids burn off some energy before bedtime.

Bioparc– Again the zoo is in Fuengirola but easy to get to by bus from Benlamadena. We found if you go on market day (Tuesday) the bus will stop right beside the entrance to the market so after your visit to the market you can walk to the zoo, it takes about 15 minutes. The zoo has recreated tropical forests from the island of Madagascar, Equatorial Africa and Southeast Asia. With lots of animals from all over the world there is plenty to see and plenty to keep the kids entertained.

There are lots of other places to visit like Tivoli world and the water parks.

I hope this helps you plan your trips if you are planning to visit anytime soon.
